Ex-Pats defender Damian Lynch analyses on Newstalk's League of Ireland podcast
Ex-St Patrick's Athletic defender Damien Lynch is happy with the progress being made by his former side after their opening night setback.
The Inchicore side opened their League of Ireland Premier Division campaign with a 3-1 home loss to Galway United, but have bounced back somewhat with a 1-0 victory at Longford Town, followed by a 3-0 home triumph over Dublin rivals Bohemians on Monday night.
"When I went to the game the other night against Bohs, they were much sounder, much better defensively, they had a better structure to them and they were playing like the way a Liam Buckley side normally sets up with good, cohesive play in the middle of the park," Lynch told Oisin Langan on Newstalk's Airtricity League Podcast, adding that Pats also have had to contend with a raft of departures from their midfield in the off-season.
One of the players who impressed Lynch on Monday night was Keith Treacy who was playing in a deep-lying role and he feels that for Pats to play well "they need that guy in front of the back four who's going to pull the strings", although questions over the player's fitness also caught Lynch's eye.
