After missing out on completing the career grand slam at the Masters for at least another year, Rory McIlroy is due to take some personal time off from the Tour.

He is reportedly getting married to Erica Stoll this weekend and is due to return for the unofficial fifth major of the year in May: The Players Championship at Sawgrass in Florida.

McIlroy had previously admitted that winning a green jacket at Augusta National was his sole focus at the turn of the year but he finished on three-under for the tournament - six shots behind Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose when 72 holes were completed.

Garcia went on to win via play-off and end his own major drought.

Speaking after the conclusion of the Masters, McIlroy said: "It's a great time in our lives. That's what I'm - the next few weeks it's all about that. I'll come back to the Players refreshed and a married man and start a new chapter in my life."

Sawgrass is renowned for the par-three 17th which is an island green. The difficulty of the hole adds to the tension as the players complete their rounds.

Jason Day is the reigning champion.
