Dirk Nowitzki has become the sixth player and the first foreigner to score 30,000 points in the NBA.

The seven-foot German who plays for the Dallas Mavericks is also the third player to reach the mark with one team after Karl Malone for Utah Jazz and Kobe Bryant for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nowitzki scored the 20 points he needed to break the milestone (25 points in the game in total) in the Maverick's 122-111 win over the Lakers on Tuesday.

The German also played a crucial role in Dallas' championship winning season in 2010/11 when they beat the Miami Heat in the finals' series and Nowitzki was also named the series' Most Valuable Player.

The home side improved their overall record to 26-36 while the Lakers drop to 19-44. The Maverick's welcome the Brooklyn Nets to Texas on Friday while the Lakers head to Phoenix to face the Suns.
