The League of Ireland returns this Friday night, with Dundalk beginning their bid for a fourth consecutive SSE Airtricity League title.

They start the defence of their title on their newly refurbished Oriel Park surface against a rejuvenated Shamrock Rovers side looking to make serious strides in the league.

Last year's runners-up and FAI Cup winners Cork City begin their season away to Finn Harps. John Caulfield's side have already gotten their season off to a winning start when they beat Dundalk 3-0 in the President's Cup.

Newly promoted Limerick FC host Sligo Rovers at Market's Field to kick off their season, while Bohemians welcome Kenny Shiels' Derry City to Dalymount Park.

Bray Wanderers will look to build on last season's strong finish when they visit Richmond Park to face St. Patrick's Athletic.

Meanwhile, Galway United face Drogheda at Eamonn Deacy Park.

In the First Division, new-look Waterford FC travel to face Athlone Town for their opening league game. Shelbourne welcome Longford Town to Tolka Park.

Elsewhere, Cabinteely host UCD and on Saturday Wexford FC travel to Cobh Ramblers.
