Racing Metro's Johan Goosen has announced his shock retirement at the age of 24.

The former Springbok also represented his country 13 times.

He was voted the Top 14's player of the season last year after the Parisian club won the French Championship.

He is due to take up a business role in his native South Africa.

According to the BBC, a statement released by the club's president Jacky Lorenzetti said: "We regret that so obviously talented a young player has been misguided and abandoned professional rugby.

"Racing 92 reserves the right for a judicial follow-up to both Johan Goosen and those who advise him," he added.
