UFC fighter could follow Conor McGregor's lead
Whether it was meant as a message to the UFC or not, Conor McGregor was granted a boxing licence in California at the start of December.
On one hand, it also feeds into speculation regarding a potential fight against Floyd Mayweather that would prove extremely lucrative.
But the Dubliner is not the only UFC fighter that has been looking to obtain a boxing licence.
Nate Diaz, the man he fought twice during 2016, losing once and winning once, is also on the hunt for one or more licences.
Diaz told ESNews boxing that he will look to get licences in two US states.
"I'm going to get my boxing license in Cali and Nevada. I tried to get out of my contract years ago - my UFC contract -so I could box years ago. But they wouldn't let me go," he said.
Referencing McGregor, he added that "if they let him box, then I'm boxing somebody too - somebody mainstream on the same card".
