A disciplinary hearing has ruled that Fekitoa's challenge on the Munster player warranted a red card
Malakai Fekitoa has been handed a one week suspension after he was cited for challenge on Simon Zebo during Ireland's clash with New Zealand last weekend.
An independent disciplinary reviewed footage of the incident ruled that the tackle 'would have warranted a red card' and said that the All Blacks player acted 'recklessly rather than intentionally.' According to World Rugby rules, this offence carries a two-week suspension.
Fekitoa accepted an act of wrongdoing at the hearing but said that he didn't believe he was deserving of a red card. Due to Fekitoa's acknowledgement of his actions, the Disciplinary Committee reduced his suspension to one week.
