Among the high profiler challengers with the Race to Dubai in mind, England's Danny Willett is on 2-under.
Rory McIlroy had already pulled out of the tournament before it started.
The 28-year-old withdrew from the event due to security concerns.
Sweden's Henrik Stenson is also an absentee having pulled out.
