Conor McGregor has been compared to many stars, past and present. One theme that is constantly returned to is the Dubliner's resemblance to the methods used in professional wrestling.

The Notorious has regularly been linked with an appearance in the WWE, and as recently as last weekend, the company paired the UFC Featherweight Champion with the former WWE Champion Roman Reigns in a fantasy match/

The resemblance with professional wrestling sees no sign in going away, as UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier has compared McGregor to 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.

'The Texas Rattlesnake' was the anti-hero of professional wrestling in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although having not wrestled since 2003, Austin remains as popular as ever.

Cormier was speaking to TSN in Toronto ahead of his fight in the city against Anthony Johnson at UFC 206, when the topic of the Dubliner was introduced.

"He is 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin from 2000", Cormier said. "The guy that you're kind of supposed to root against but you want to root for. Everything that he does, before would have gotten people to boo you, but they've taken to it."

"It's something different than what they're used to seeing that people love it. I think it's fun."

McGregor has spoken about the WWE as recently as last August, after Brock Lesnar failed a drugs test at UFC 200. It looks like he would fancy himself at a WrestleMania or SummerSlam.
