A number of disgusting messages were sent to the footballer's mother, one which read: "Do you want to see how James would look dead?" and "I'm coming to your house now, say goodbye to all your loved ones."
ESPN are reporting that the Colombia international has now returned to his club and twitter have shut down the account the threats came from.
Colombia host Uruguay on Tuesday in the South American world cup qualification series where they sit joint third with Argentina and Ecuador on 16 points. Uruguay lead the way on 19 points with Brazil a point further back.
