If confirmed, Los Angeles, Paris and Budapest would be the bids left in the running
The city of Rome is expected to confirm that it is pulling out of the bidding to host the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics today.
The Italian capital's new mayor, Virginia Raggi of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement, has spoken before of her concerns about the rising cost of putting on the Games.
If confirmed, Los Angeles, Paris and Budapest would be the bids left in the running.
Rome has previously hosted the Olympic Games in 1960 and also withdrew from the 2020 bidding early in the process.
The International Olympic Committee will decide on the 2024 host on September 13th 2017 at an International Olympic Committee Session in Lima, Peru.
The 2020 Games will take place in Tokyo, Japan.
