"I don't think he's ever going to be able to do that"

John Giles believes Jose Mourinho might be mistaken by how well he expects Paul Pogba to do for Manchester United.

The Premier League side were in Europa League action on Thursday night, losing 1-0 to Feyenoord.

Pogba started the game but failed to sparkle like the rest of the United team.

John was not impressed by the Reds or by Pogba's prospects after his big money move.

"They didn't get a hold of it in the middle of the field. Pogba was in front of the ball most of the time anyway. I don't think he's going to be the player that Mourinho expected him to be," said John on Off The Ball.

"[Mourinho] said before [Pogba] came that he could do this, that and the other and control the game and run the game from the middle of the field. I don't think he's ever going to be able to do that."

John explained that "you can't control the game from the positions he takes up".

"I've never seen a real top class player take up the positions that he did in the Manchester derby," he added, explaining that they weren't positions conducive to receiving the ball.

"He won't be a Scholes for example," he said.
