The opening day's races take place in Leopardstown, before the move to The Curragh tomorrow
The opening day of the Longines Irish Champions Weekend takes place today in Leopardstown.
Eight races take place over the day, with two Group 1 races taking place this evening. The feature event of the day is The QIPCO Irish Champions Stakes at 6.45pm.
Saturday's star attraction will see Harzand and Minding battle it out over the mile and two furlongs. Harzand was victorious in the Epson Derby the Irish Derby at The Curragh this summer. The Dermot Weld-trained horse is unbeaten in 2016 with four wins from four.
Minding has won four of her five races in 2016, including the Espon Oaks and the 1,000 Gunieas. Ryan Moore is looking for his second win in the race after his win in 2014.

6.45pm: The QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes (Group 1)
7.20pm: The Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 'Sovereign Path' Handicap
