Jose Mourinho has claimed his first trophy as Manchester United manager as Zlatan Ibrahimovic's winner saw them past Leicester City in the Community Shield.

Coupled with news that Paul Pogba's arrival is almost rubber-stamped, it was a positive day for the Old Trafford club at Wembley for the new season's traditional curtain raise.

Leicester, who started without any of their new signings, almost hit the front through Shinji Okazaki. The Japan international had a shot deflected just wide before turning a Marc Albrighton corner onto the crossbar.

But it was United who drew first blood in style when Jesse Lingard embarked on a solo run which saw him end it with aplomb as his finish beat Kasper Schmeichel after 32 minutes of play.

But reigning Premier League champions Leicester fought back 20 minutes later thanks to an error from Marouane Fellaini, who is likely to lose his starting place when Pogba arrives.

His attempted back-pass was perfect for Jamie Vardy who showed a clean pair of heels to race clear of the United defence, before rounding David De Gea and finding the net.

But as the game ticked down towards a draw, a cross to the far post found Ibrahimovic who headed across goal to score what ultimately proved to be the winner as the ball hit the inside of the post on its way in.
