Simeone lands a striker having been linked with several in recent weeks
Antonio Conte looks to have gotten his wish to keep Diego Costa at Chelsea as Atletico Madrid announced a deal with Sevilla for Kevin Gameiro earlier today.
Diego Simeone's side were in need of a striker ahead of the new campaign and had been linked with moves for Mauro Icardi, Romelu Lukaku, Gonzalo Higuain and their former player Diego Costa in recent weeks.
The club's president Enrique Cerezo said recently that a deal was close between Chelsea and Atletico and said that the club were in the process of working out a transfer for the player.
This appeared to infuriate Conte who promised that the player would remain at the club but Costa did not do much to help matters by posting a picture to Instagram that looked a lot like a goodbye message to his teammates.
Atletico announced today that they have signed 29-year-old Gameiro from Sevilla after he scored 29 goals last season for the Europa League winners.
The Madrid club are set to be hit with an 18-month transfer ban similar to that of Barcelona's and need to reinforce their squad for fear of being left wanting in the coming season and beyond.
