Two-time US PGA Championship Dave Stockton believes Rory McIlroy is in a "great place" ahead of the fourth and final major of 2016.

The 1970 and 1976 winner joined Off The Ball tonight as the US PGA Championship 2016 gets underway this Thursday.

"I think he's in a great spot. At the Open he looked good, especially the couple of early rounds. He seems in a great place," said Stockton of McIlroy.

"I think the putter he's got is perfect for him and I think everything is fine."

He also added that he "suspects [McIlroy] will play really well" at the Baltusrol Golf Club course.

And as golf appears to be in an era of a Top Four made up of Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson, Stockton compared the quartet.

According to Stockton, McIlroy or Day are the best ball-strikers, a trait that will suit the Baltusrol course.
