It failed to overturn a ban earlier this year
The Muirfield club will hold a fresh ballot on whether to admit female members.
The announcement comes just six weeks after the committee failed to secure the two thirds support it required for a proposal to allow women to join.
A postal ballot results in 64 percent in favour of the resolution.
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers expect another vote to take place before the end of the year.
The golf club based in East Lothian, Scotland, had been a regular host of The Open Championship, although the fact that it did not overturn the ban on female members means it has been taken off rotation by The Open's organisers.
