Tyrone conceded a late goal this afternoon in Clones that earned Cavan a replay
Mickey Harte lamented his side's defensive frailties after Tyrone conceded a late goal against Cavan and had to settle for a draw in Clones.
Tyrone conceded three goals this afternoon and will meet Cavan again in two week's time, a break that Harte says will give his side time to reorganise their defensive set-up.
"We did in a way leave it behind us, but any game that ends in a draw and there's as many scores as that in it you'd have to be happy you didn't lose the game. Early on we were on the back foot, they got a wonderful start. They were playing with a lot of composure and comfort on the ball. We had to claw our way back into the game.
"We got back in just before the break but then got hit with another sucker punch in the goal. That was really disappointing because we had got ourselves into a decent position and then we were behind again.
"When you're playing in a game as close as that, you'll always be happy to get a second chance."
Tyrone looked dangerous in possession and in front of goal this afternoon, something which Harte placed a huge emphasis on before the game.
"The worst thing you can do is not be creating. You know, you miss 100 per cent of the shots you don't take. We have to be taking shots and if you're not, you're not going to hurt anybody."
In the lead up to the game Tyrone were steady at the back and hadn't conceded a goal in their previous seven games. They shipped three this afternoon and Harte says that will need to change before the replay.
"They were disappointing, I'll have to look in more detail how they came about. But it's one of those things, the last one for me was the worst one because when a team is looking for a goal in the end, that's when you need to put the shutters down and give them everything but a goal.
"And we gave them the opportunity of a goal and they took it, of course... They were strange goals to concede and too many in the one game.
"I expect that we'll have to play to the pin of our collar once again and hope that we can get enough scores the next day, maybe be a bit more frugal with the goals we concede."
