Waterford avenged their league final defeat as they dismissed a misfiring Clare side in Semple Stadium this afternoon on a scoreline of 1-21 to 0-17.

Maurice Shanahan raised the green flag early for the Déise and that set the tone as they managed to keep Davy Fitzgerald's Clare at arms length through the 70 minutes.

Last year's Munster finalists, Waterford took a 1-09 to 0-08 point lead in at the break, and accelerated clear in the second half with an excellent display in hurling.

Austin Gleeson was superb from half-back, hitting six points, including a monster sideline cut, while Pauric Mahony matched his point scoring exploits.

Waterford will now face either Limerick or Tipperary in the Munster final.
