In a couple of weeks, Martin O'Neill will have to pick his 23-man Ireland squad for Euro 2016.

Before that though, the manager has had a chance to pick his all-time European Championship XI.

European football's governing body UEFA have been getting fans, players and managers to share their all-time favourite XIs from a shortlist of 50 legendary players who have played in the tournament.

Defenders: Franz Beckenbauer (West Germany), Paolo Maldini (Italy), Carles Puyol (Spain), Lillian Thuram (France).

Midfielders: Michel Platini (France), Xavi (Spain), Zinedine Zidane (France), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal).

Strikers: Gerd Müller (West Germany), Marco Van Basten (Netherlands).
