Many will associate Aviva Premiership side Sale Sharks with Peter Stringer, who recently scooped the club's Player of the Season award, but now another veteran international joins their ranks.

The club have announced the signing of scrum-half Mike Phillips who will join from next season.

Phillips has made 94 caps for Wales, a record for a scrum half, and also played five Tests for the British and Irish Lions during their tours in 2009 and 2013.

"Mike will fit perfectly into our plans here at Sale Sharks," said Director of Rugby Steve Diamond, "He is a big, powerful and very skilful player and has plenty of experience playing at the top level of the game.

"Mike will be one of three ex Racing 92 players at the club next season alongside Brian Mujati and Juandre Kruger."

Sale sit seventh in the Aviva Premiership ahead of this weekend’s final round of fixtures.
