The UFC have revealed that they will host their first event in New York City on November 12th.

The date holds particular historical significance for the organisation as it will be the 23rd anniversary since the first UFC event in Denver.

Mixed martial arts was banned in New York in 1997, before the rule was overturned last month. Only one event was ever held in the state before the ban. UFC 7 took place in Buffalo in September 1995.

November's event will take place in Madison Square Garden in what promises to be a historical night for the company. The announcement of the November event came hours after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the rule change into state law.

The UFC have also confirmed that they will host an event in upstate New York before the end of the year. As part of the legalisation of MMA in New York, the UFC has committed to hosting at least four events in the state in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
