Former Kerry star Mike Quirke has been impressed with the side's performances in 2015
Four time All-Ireland winner Kieran Donaghy has been a revelation in this year's Allianz Football League according to former Kerry star Mike Quirke.
The Austin Stacks star has been immense in midfield for the Munster champions throughout the league starting in their final four games. The former captain has been named in the team for Sunday's league semi-final against Roscommon
Quirke feels that the league campaign has been useful for players such as Donaghy to find their way back into the team. "It's not so much new players but a regeneration of older players. The likes of Darran O'Sullivan was close to being Footballer of the Year a few years ago, before suffering with injuries and now he's back and he's a major influence on their play."
Donaghy has primarily impressed for Kerry at full forward, but Quirke feels he can impress in the middle of the field. "The two guys in the middle of midfield. Donaghy was cast aside into the scrapheap two years ago. Now he's running midfield. It's now Donaghy and Dave Moran".
The return of older players to the team has been crucial, Quirke told Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan. "You have just got ferocious competition. Whether Donaghy ends up at full-forward, he may do. At the moment, physically he looks like a different body than he was two years ago, which is fantastic."
The winners of Kerry and Roscommon will face either Dublin or Donegal in the Allianz League Final.
