The striker player for Villa during the 1990s
Former Aston Villa striker Dwight Yorke has claimed the club should sack Remi Garde and manager and give him the job.
Yorke played for the club from 1990 to 1998 before joining Manchester United. The Tobagonian won two League Cup titles with Villa in 1994 and 1996.
Speaking on TalkSport, Yorke revealed his is interested in taking charge of the Birmingham club. "I would be lying to you guys if I said I wasn’t interested in the job. I respect the manager in the position at this point in time but in terms of passion – yes. Aston Villa is a club I spent ten years at. I understand the club, the fans have been great. It’s where it all started for me in the first place."
Villa look certain to be relegated from the Premier League. They lie bottom on the table on 16 points with eight games to go. The Villans have only spent one season outside England's top-flight since 1975-76.
Garde's future at the club remains uncertain, but York is already actively linking his name to the position. "If that vacancy comes up, there is no question I’ll be putting forward my name and trying to get in there as a manager. I do love the club, I understand the club and with my experience and a team I can put together to try and bring Aston Villa back."
Under Garde, Villa have only won two Premier League games since the Frenchman was appointed in November. Yorke has yet to manage a club, but has been active in taking his coaching badges since retiring from the game.
