His Roma side were knocked out, but the fans in Madrid still showed their respect to Totti
At 39-years-old, Francesco Totti may not have many more seasons in the Champions League left, something which was recognised by the fans at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday night.
The Roma legend made an appearance as a substitute in the closing stages of the match, and with his side already two goals down, the game was all but over.
However, the Madrid faithful still got to their feet to applaud him on to the pitch, and a number of opposition players went out of their way to shake his hand as he made his entrance.

At the end of the match, Madrid defender Sergio Ramos was also full of praise for the player, with whom he exchanged shirts: "He came over as he wanted a signed jersey of mine. That made me proud. I have admired him since I was small. He gave me his and signed it for me, too."
Speaking after the game, Totti stated that it had been a touching moment for him: "I really didn't expect it to be so strong. It means I've given a lot to the game of football, and this is my thanks from an amazing stadium".
