The Limerick man was keen on a rematch with Saunders but Lee says it is not possible
Andy Lee was on Off The Ball today and revealed he is unable to get a rematch against Billy Joe Saunders due to a contractual clause.
Lee was defeated by Saunders at the Manchester Arena in December as the Limerick man put his WBO Middleweight belt on the line in a bout that had been rescheduled twice. The initial fight was supposed to take place in Lee's home in Thomond Park.
In relation to the possibility of a rematch, Lee says that there is nothing planned as a result of contractual clause that does not require Saunders to step back in the ring with the Irishman. "We have inquired about a rematch and he was the number one contender, the mandatory challenger so there was no rematch clause.
"There wasn't a voluntary defence so he doesn't want it and I can understand that. That says enough in itself, that he got away with it and you could see in the last few rounds he was boxing in his shell and didn't want to mix or trade and he knew he had the fight won off those two knock-downs earlier in the fight."
