Shane Long's hopes of bagging a move to Liverpool have hit a setback.

The Reds have reportedly stepped up their interest in another target this week after making a bid for Shaktar Donetsk striker Alex Teixeira.

The Brazilian has scored 67 goals in 146 league games for the Ukranian side and Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre is thought to have flown out to Florida this week where Champions League regulars Shaktar are taking part in a friendly tournament.

This season alone, the player who had been the subject of interest from Chelsea, has 22 goals in just 16 Ukrainian Premier League games.

Liverpool are believed to have tabled a bid of €32 million but Shaktar are holding out for closer to €50 million.

The Reds reportedly had an £8 million bid for Southampton and Ireland striker Long rejected earlier this week.
