Newcastle United newcomer Jonjo Shelvey says he was told he did not fit into Swansea's way of playing.

He also says a lack of game-time there has led to his move to St James Park.

The England international found himself not getting into the matchday squad in recent times at his previous club, before making the move to Newcastle on Tuesday.

"I never once asked to leave Swansea. I never come out and did an interview saying that, so it's just a matter of I wasn't going to play at Swansea, not getting my chance. I felt I needed a new challenge," said Shelvey.

He is in line to make his Newcastle debut against West Ham tomorrow afternoon in their 3pm Premier League kick-off.
