The French superstar has been managing Real Madrid Castilla and has aspirations to one day coach the first team
Real Madrid lie third in La Liga, just two points off Atletico Madrid and Barcelona and have won 10 of their opening 16 games. Their most recent victory was a 10-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano.
By most football club's standards, that's a very solid start but speculation appears to be mounting over Rafa Benitez' job security at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Marca believe there could be just five days left of Benitez' reign in the capital of Spain as his side welcome a somewhat resurgent Real Sociedad to the Bernabeu on the 30th of December. The hope is that Benitez can inspire a run of positive results with anything but meaning the end of the road for Benitez. Anything but including even a draw in the next few months.
Luis Figo has backed Zidane to eventually take over at Real Madrid and says he knows the Frenchman wants to manage the first team at some point. What must be understood is that Figo is not speaking out without thinking about what he is saying. There is quite a clear agenda here that spells the end for Benitez.
AS report that Zidane has the backing of the senior members of the squad, if he were to take over. Many have cited Benitez losing the dressing room as the reason for the loss in confidence by Florentino Perez.
Isco was seen sniggering behind Benitez on the bench when Rayo Vallecano drew level in the first half, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos do not believe in him and there appears to be even more dissent the further you dig.
There could be changes at the top of La Liga soon and it could, and most likely will, start in the dugout at the Santiago Bernabeu.
