Jose Mourinho's representatives have reached out regarding Manchester United job

The former Chelsea manager has not been sacked a week but it seems he is ready to get back into management

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea board on Thursday afternoon following a feeble start to their Premier League campaign.

Mourinho might be finished in London but it is being reported that the Portuguese manager wants the Manchester United job and has started making moves towards getting it. Sources at ESPN report that Mourinho has had his representatives contact United in order to let them know that their client is interested.

The Manchester United managerial role is becoming increasingly unstable given Louis van Gaal's shortcomings in recent weeks and a change could be imminent. There is a growing belief that players in the squad are disenchanted and the style of football is drawing harsher criticism by the week.

Mourinho has long been interested in taking over United and was believed to have been shocked, stunned and not least, offended, when David Moyes was offered the job when Alex Ferguson decided it was time to retire. Mourinho believed he had a close relationship with Ferguson and has made it somewhat of a mission to land the job at Old Trafford having been overlooked in favour of Moyes the first time around.

It could be a classic move to get back at Chelsea from the abrasive Mourinho. There are few ways to get back at Abramovich than to bring success back to United, which he is wont to do, as we have seen from Mourinho's spells in charge of Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Mourinho, infamously, did not get the Barcelona job post Frank Rijkaard as he was seen as being too hot-headed, contradictory and not in line with the values Barcelona, as a club, espoused.

That could be true of Mourinho at United also as Bobby Charlton said back in 2012 that a "A United manager wouldn't do that" in reference to Mourinho poking Tito Villanova in the eye in the middle of an El Clasico showdown.

United are becoming increasingly desperate to bring success back to Old Trafford, and while Mourinho brings pontification with him, he most certainly brings success.
