Up until this weekend the Carolina Panthers and Golden State Warriors stood at the top of the American sports rankings as the only unbeaten teams in America.

The Warriors broke records for fun in their historic 24-0 run at the start of the NBA season before losing to Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. Yesterday evening, the Carolina Panthers extended their run to 13-0 and the NFL and remain the only unbeaten team in the league with every other side losing at least two games.

Carolina defeated the Atlanta Falcons 38-0 to guarantee a first-round bye in the playoffs. Their quarterback Cam Newton looks on course to win the League's MVP award after a stunning season for the NFC South team.

Newton is so popular is North Carolina, with fans that even when not on the field he remains the centre of attention in a game. With the clocking ticking down in yesterday's game, the 26-year-old decided to run the length of the touchline over and back to celebrate with the fans. He even used some of Hulk Hogan's poses in celebration.

It's easy to see why Newton's infectiousness is so popular in professional football.
