The much hyped super fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather could take place as early as August 26th.

It comes after the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved a request from Floyd Mayweather's promotion company to promote an unspecified boxing event on that very date MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Speculation has abounded for months that a fight between the UFC lightweight champion McGregor and former unbeaten boxer Mayweather would take place this week, although what is expected to be a highly lucrative bout has yet to be confirmed.

However, ESPN has been informed by Nevada State Athletic Commission chairman Anthony Marnell that the request from Mayweather's promotion company had been approved on Wednesday.

It has increased speculation that the proposed Mayweather-McGregor fight is the boxing event that will take place on August 26th.

That date is in between UFC 215 which is scheduled for August 19th and UFC 216 on September 9th.
