Man dies following weekend assault outside Dublin nightclub

A post-mortem is due to be carried out on the body of a 34-year-old man who died following an alleged assault in Dublin at the weekend.

The incident happened in the Airside area of Swords in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man was taken to Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries, but he died last night.

His body will be removed to Dublin City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination, and the office of the State Pathologist and the Coroner have been notified.

Gardaí are continuing to detain and question a man aged in his 30s at Swords Garda Station as part of the investigation.

He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Investigating Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses.

They particularly would like to speak anybody who may have witnessed an altercation between two men outside the nightclub between 3.00am and 3.30am.
