The Louvre Museum in Paris has re-opened after a security alert saw police being called to reports of a "suspicious bag" found in the courtyard.

French Presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron is due to speak there later tonight.

Police in the French capital said they made security checks of the area as a precaution and later added that the situation there had returned to normal.

French voters are going to the polls today to choose between the centrist politician and the far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen.

Macron, who is tipped to beat National Front candidate Marine Le Pen in the election on Sunday, is due to address his supporters at the grounds of the Louvre in the evening after the result comes out.
