A trailer has been released for the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

It was released as part of the 40th anniversary of the first movie Star Wars: A New Hope at the official fan gathering in Orlando on Friday.

As part of the celebrations, the official poster for the new movie was also revealed.

They've also announced that the The Last Jedi will be releasing on December 15th.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi follows on from 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens which broke various box office records including the highest-grossing installment in the franchise and the third-highest-grossing film of all time.

The trailer picks up where the last movie left off with the new hero Rey (Daisy Ridley) on an island with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

Skellig Michael features in the latest Star Wars trailer showcasing the wonderful Wild Atlantic Way.

Tourism Ireland, together with three Irish tourism partners, attended the four-day convention in Orlando to help promote the country's breathtaking coast.

Speaking about the trailer Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said "Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke box office records around the world in late 2015, bringing the magnificent scenery of Skellig Michael and the Wild Atlantic Way to the attention of millions of people everywhere.

"The fact that Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, due for release this December, was also shot on location along the Wild Atlantic Way is another fantastic coup for Irish tourism – and we’re absolutely delighted that the Wild Atlantic Way features so heavily in the first peek of the next episode, released today."
