Devenish Island, Lough Erne

A Donegal woman has died after falling from a boat on Lough Erne in County Fermanagh.

Police said the woman had fallen overboard as she checked ropes near Devenish Island at around 1:20am this morning.

The 30-year-old was on holiday in the area with her husband and two young children.

Police said the woman’s husband had dived into the water after she went overboard but couldn't find her.

The couple's two young children were asleep when she fell.

The woman's body was recovered after an overnight search operation.

“A full search operation was implemented and sadly a body was recovered from the water shortly before 3am this morning,” said PSNI inspector Gavin Sterling.

“An investigation into the circumstances is now underway and a post mortem examination is expected to be carried out.”

The search teams offered their sympathies to the victim’s family and thanks all of the agencies involved in the overnight operation.
