A man is due in court following an armed robbery in Limerick city centre.

A lone raider entered a shop on Thomas Street in the city yesterday morning and threatened a female shop assistant with what gardaí described as a large knife.

The perpetrator left the shop with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robbery occurred at approximately 11am on Thursday 8th March.

A man in his 30s was arrested after a follow-up search and was detained at Henry Street Garda Station in the city.

He is expected to appear before Limerick District Court this morning charged in connection with the robbery.
