Three skiers have been killed in an avalanche in the northern Italian Alps.

Reports say five others are also injured, three of them seriously.

It is believed the group was back-country skiing when the avalanche was triggered at Plan de la Gabba.

It happened at around midday local time.

Their nationalities are not known.

Search and rescue teams, including sniffer dogs, are being used to search for anyone else injured.
