Gardaí seize cannabis worth over €250,000

The drugs were found during a random car search near Borris-in-Ossory in County Laois

Gardaí have seized cannabis with a street value of over €250,000 during a random car search near Borris-in-Ossory, County Laois.

As part of ongoing Roads Policing and Road Safety Operations a multi agency checkpoint was carried out on the M7 motorway.

The checkpoint was conducted by Gardaí from Portlaoise along with the Health & Safety Authority, Roads Safety Authority and Revenue’s Customs Service.

A man in his 30’s - the sole occupant of the car - has been arrested and is detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Portlaoise Garda Station.

A technical and forensic examination of the car and drugs seized is underway.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
