Saturday's weather: Showers with some sunny spells - much colder tonight

Today

Cold this morning, with frost and icy patches clearing gradually.

Scattered showers will continue, mainly in west Munster, Connacht and west Ulster at first, but spreading to other areas during the day, especially southern and eastern coastal areas.

There will be good sunny spells also, with some areas staying dry.

Some of the showers will be heavy and of hail, with a slight risk of thunder, mainly along western, northwestern and southern coasts.

Maximum temperatures 5 to 8 Celsius, in light to moderate south to southwest breezes.

Tonight

Tonight, scattered showers will continue in Atlantic coastal counties, but it will become mainly dry elsewhere, with clear intervals.

Very cold, with widespread sharp or severe frost and icy stretches.

Fog also, with dense pockets in places, especially in the midlands.

Minimum temperatures 0 to minus 4 Celsius, in calm conditions.
