An Irish woman has been seriously injured in a plane crash in Australia.

According to reports, the 29-year-old woman has suspected head injuries and a possible fractured lower leg.

It is understood the woman was on board a light aircraft which came down onto a remote beach in central Queensland this morning.

A British woman has reportedly lost her life in the incident.

ABC News Australia reports that the 62-year-old pilot is in a serious condition with a head injury and broken leg, as well as suspected chest and abdominal injuries.

A 13-year-old boy reportedly has a possible broken leg, and is in a stable condition.

It is believed the passengers were tourists camping on the island.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the crash and is providing consular assistance to the Irish woman's family.
