It happened at around 3pm this afternoon in Kilclare Cresent in Jobstown. The victim was taken to Tallaght hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Gardaí are at the scene, which has been preserved for a technical examination. Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Some of the highest ranking intelligence officials in the US are giving testimony to US Senate Armed Services Committee investigating claims of Russian interference in the US election this afternoon.
The claims were made by director of national intelligence James Clapper, undersecretary of defence for intelligence Marcel Lettre, and Admiral Michael Rogers, director of the National Security Agency (NSA).
Provincial governor Erol Ayyildiz told reporters: "A clash erupted after our police officers wanted to stop a vehicle at a police check point in front of Bayrakli courthouse.
"In this clash, terrorists detonated the car bomb while trying to escape."Mr Ayyildiz said a police officer and a courthouse employee had been killed in the attack.
At least five others were reportedly injured, some of them critically. Armed officers are said to be looking for a third suspect.
Minister for Health Simon Harris meet with the HSE earlier today to discuss ways of decreasing the number of people on trolleys.
The Executive said they will be opening an additional 63 acute hospital beds, along with 60 Transitional Care Beds across 10 acute hospitals. The beds will be opened immediately for the next four weeks in 10 hospitals.
They said that they will admit "patients, who would otherwise remain in an acute bed, while their nursing home application is being completed and processed.”
The blaze happened at a house at Old Friary Place on Shandon Street. It was reported to emergency services at 11.30am this morning.
The man's body has been taken to Cork University Hospital where a postmortem will be carried out. Gardaí say the incident is not believed to be suspicious.
