Vladimir Putin declares 'fragile' deal has been reached on Syrian ceasefire

Syria's government has agreed a nationwide ceasefire with rebels in a deal brokered by key ally Russia and opposition-backing Turkey.

The truce, due to begin at midnight, is designed to pave the way for a political solution to the conflict after nearly six years of war.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin said it would be followed by peace talks in Kazakhstan between President Bashar al Assad's government and the opposition.

US issues sanctions against Russia over alleged hacking and 'harassment of US officials'

The US government has issued a number of sanctions against Russia, over alleged 'aggressive harassment of US officials' and the Obama administration's claims that Russia was involved in hacking in the lead up to this year's US election.

35 Russian government officials from the Russian Embassy in Washington and the Russian Consulate in San Francisco have been given 72 hours to leave the US.

A man has been arrested in connection with the abduction and disappearance of Charles Brooke Pickard 25 years ago.

Charles Brooke Pickard (43) disappeared from White Strand at Castlecove, Co Kerry on 26th of April 1991.

Tributes pour in for handball star Conall McCavitt after hit-and-run accident

Conall McCavitt remains in a serious condition in hospital after a suspected hit and run accident which took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Cardinal O’Fiaich Square, Crossmaglen. 

The handball star, who won two world titles in 2012, is being treated in Royal Hospital Belfast as he recovers from the accident.
