The film stars Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, and former One Direction member Harry Styles
When the teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk surfaced online a few months ago, it showcased a terrified looking bunch of British soldiers looking to the skies at the approaching German Luftwaffe. As teasers go, it promised a lot more to come, and today brings the first full look at what we can expect from The Dark Knight director.
As one of the finest mainstream directors working in Hollywood today, known for adding a healthy dose of braininess to the blockbuster, Dunkirk represents a change of pace of the director, leaving behind the genre pics that made his name (Batman Begins, Inception, Interstellar) and focusing on one of the most harrowing military engagements of the Second World War. The story revolves around the infamous escape from Dunkirk by British, French, Polish and Belgian troops, when allied military leaders made the decision to flee and fight another day.
The large ensemble cast includes two Nolan regulars (Irishman Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy), as well as Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh.
With the film set for a summer release on July 21st, take a look at the trailer in full below:
