Gardaí in Cork are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision in which a man died.

It happened on the N72 Fermoy to Ballyhooely Road at around 8.00am Monday morning.

The male aged in his early 20s was the only occupant of the car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene when his car was in collision with a 4X4 vehicle.

The driver and two passengers in the 4X4 have been taken to Cork University Hospital.

The scene is preserved and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct investigations.

The stretch of road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information, particularly those who were travelling the N72, are asked to contact Fermoy garda station on 025-82100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800666-111 or any garda station.
