Government announce €5.3m in funding for rural towns

The Government has announced details of 5.3 million euro in funding to stimulate economic development in rural towns.

Under the initiative - money is being approved to 41 projects nationwide.

€1.9 million is going to projects in the North and Western Region, €1.3 million to the Southern Region and €2.1 million for initiatives in the East and Midlands.

Minister Heather Humphreys says it aims to boost economic activity and improve living standards across rural Ireland.

“This initiative encourages Local Authorities to work with local communities, business interests and other State bodies, to identify areas of greatest economic need which can make better use of their local assets to generate economic activity. This is all about empowering local communities to provide local residents with local opportunities," she said.

Of the funding, €1.9 million has been allocated to projects in the North and Western Region, €1.3 million for projects in the Southern Region and €2.1 million for projects in the Eastern and Midlands Region.
