A woman is said to be in a serious, but stable condition after she was seriously assaulted in Limerick last night.

Gardaí received a report of a disturbance at a property at Hassetts Villas in Thomondgate, where the 37-year-old woman was found with possible stab wounds.

A 28-year-old man was arrested and is currently being detained at Henry St. Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
