Netflix has released a tralier for its series based on the books by Daniel Handler - known under his pen name of Lemony Snicket.

'A Series of Unfortunate Events' recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny.

Their evil guardian Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris, will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance.

It was also made into a major motion picture with Jim Carey in the title role back in 2004.

The siblings must outsmart Olaf, foiling his many plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death.

Joan Cusack and Alfre Woodard will also take on co-starring roles.

The eight-episode series is produced by Barry Sonnenfeld and Handler.

It is set to premiere in January 2017.
