Garda policy “does not actively encourage" whistleblowers to come forward

The Policing Authority has criticised an Garda Síocháina for allowing whistleblowers to be punished for coming forward with disclosures.

The report, released this afternoon, said garda policy “does not actively encourage workers to raise concerns about wrongdoing.”

The report makes a number of recommendations - most of which the force has welcomed and said it will examine

Actor Robert Vaughn dies aged 83

American actor Robert Vaughn, best known for his role in The Man from U.N.C.L.E has passed away.

Vaughn who was nominated for an Academy Award for his 1959 role in The Young Philadelphians died following a brief battle with cancer according to American entertainment website Deadline.

His manager, Matthew Sullivan told the website he had “passed away with his wife and family around him.”

 

Trump may be ready to row back on "Obamacare" repeal

Donald Trump has said he will consider leaving certain parts of the ‘Obamacare’ act in place - despite his pledges to scrap the healthcare law during his campaign.

The President-elect appears to have softened his position on the Affordable Care Act - President Obama's signature piece of legislation - after the pair held a meeting in the Oval Office on Thursday.

Your health insurance could cost you an extra €40 from April

People should expect a 10% increase to their health insurance levy, according to an industry expert.

The Department of Health has written to insurers informing them of the increase. Leading healthcare benefits expert Dermot Goode expects the cost to be passed on to consumers.

However, Minister for Health Simon Harris has since suggested to Newstalk.com that insurance companies are considering not making consumers pay for the increase, and that they are under no obligation to do so.
