A driver has been arrested after they were found to be speeding at 216km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The car was detected breaching the speed limit on the N7 on Wednesday morning.

The car was stopped by the Naas Traffic Corp.

Gardaí say the driver was arrested for dangerous driving.

The car was also seized for having no insurance.

A recent slow down campaign over a 24 hour period saw 135,010 vehicles checked. Of these, 341 of these were travelling in excess of the speed limit.

Last year saw the lowest number of road deaths since 2012 - at 166.

Dublin and Cork had the highest record of road fatalities, at 17 and 16 respectively. While Roscommon and Waterford had no road fatalities in 2015.
